COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SOYBEAN-CASEIN DIGEST AGAR MEDIUM, DEHYDRATED
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description in preference to Military Specification MIL-S-36751.
This Commercial Item Description covers Soybean-Casein Digest Agar Medium, Dehydrated, for use as a general purpose medium.
Salient Characteristics:
Shall be Soybean-Casein Digest Agar Medium, Dehydrated.
Shall be a stable dehydrated powder, which when prepared in accordance with the manufacturer’s labeled directions, using purified water, shall contain in each 1000 ml of prepared medium the following ingredients:

All ingredients used in the manufacture of the medium shall be the highest grade suitable for bacteriological use.
The medium shall contain not less than 90.0 percent and not more than 120.0 percent of the specified amount of each above ingredient for each 1000 ml of prepared medium when assayed by a suitable, accurate and reproducible method. The medium may be adjusted or supplemented as required to meet performance criteria and to account for variations in raw materials.
One pound of dehydrated medium shall yield not less than 12.5 liters of prepared medium. The pH of the prepared medium, after sterilization in an autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes and cooled at 25°C, shall be 7.30 ± 0.2 when determined potentiometrically using USP procedures.
